Fight around the Donetsk airport in Ukraine lasted for 242 days and this event has become one of the symbols of Ukrainian resistance. In 2014 October, Russian war correspondent Sergei Loiko stayed four days in the middle of the battle and photographed the Ukrainian “cyborg” volunteers’ fight for the airport.
“There was a small amount of people protecting air, the air of freedom. It was an armed continuation of Maidan. It was armed Maidan in the airport,” described Loiko to Estonian Public Broadcasting.
Since 1991. Loiko has worked for Los Angeles Times. Recently he published a book called “Airport” that tells the story of protecting the airport. The exhibition can be seen in the Estonian Museum of Occupations from January.
