Valentina Sovkina
chairman of the Sami Parliament of the Kola Peninsula
Since 2012, Valentina Sovkina has been the director of the Sami Radio in the Murmansk Oblast on the Kola Peninsula. Before that she has worked at Tundra, the Russian Sami agricultural cooperative and as a specialist on indigenous peoples in the Barents region. She is a member of the Kola Sami Association; head of the international Murmansk branch of the Sami Women’s Forum, and since 2006, a member of the Lovozero agricultural cooperative. Since 2008, she is a member of the BEAR (БЕАР) working group on indigenous peoples and the president of the Kuelnegk Soamet Sobbar, the Sami Parliament of the Kola Peninsula.
